To Tour or Not to Tour… “Why Not?” Is the Question

One of the best parts of being an author is finally getting to share the fruits of all that work. After months, or let’s be honest, years, of living inside research rabbit holes, chasing footnotes, and obsessing over story beats, there comes that moment when the book is done and it is time to send it out into the world.
And that is usually when the book tour happens, except, well, COVID happened. Sniff.
The publishing world shifted, and traditional book tours became a bit of a question mark. During the tours for INDIANAPOLIS in 2018 for the hardcover and 2019 for the paperback, Lynn and I hit the road twice, spending a couple of months out there each time. It was exhausting, exhilarating, and honestly one of my favorite parts of the entire process.
This time around, it is harder to know what lies ahead.
I am incredibly grateful for the friends and contacts I have made over the years working in the WWII space, and I do not take any of that for granted. But the days of casually popping into indie bookstores along the way are fewer and farther between, and that genuinely makes me sad. Bookstores and libraries are some of my favorite places on earth. I love sitting down with readers and fellow history lovers, talking about the behind-the-scenes research, and sharing the stories that did not quite make it into the final cut. There are always a few.
So here is where you come in.
If you are part of a book club, a frequent visitor to your local bookstore, or a library regular, ask if they are still hosting author visits. If they are, send me a message. If I am nearby, or can make a trip work, I would absolutely love to come out and support local bookstores, libraries, and book clubs.
Because as much as I love writing these stories, sharing them with readers, face to face, is still the best part.
