ABOUT SARA

Sara Vladic is a New York Times bestselling author and award-winning documentary filmmaker known for bringing deeply researched, cinematic history to a wide audience. Her work focuses on the overlooked people and unlikely alliances that shaped World War II, especially on the American home front.
She is one of the world’s leading experts on USS Indianapolis, a story that captivated her at age thirteen and became a lifelong pursuit. Over two decades, Vladic interviewed 107 survivors of the disaster, directed the acclaimed documentary USS Indianapolis: The Legacy, and published new research in Proceedings, the official journal of the U.S. Navy. In recognition of her dedication to preserve their legacy, the survivors asked her to serve as their official storyteller and named her an honorary survivor. Sara has also appeared as an expert commentator on PBS’s USS Indianapolis: Live from the Deep. Her New York Times bestseller INDIANAPOLIS delivers the definitive account of the worst sea disaster in United States naval history, revealing a human drama unlike any other.
Her latest book, THE DANGEROUS SHORE: How a Motley Crew of Scientists, Mobsters, Double Agents, Retirees, Volunteer Pilots (and a Boy Scout) Stopped the Invasion of America, reveals the astonishing, untold story of the war fought along America’s own coastline. Spanning from the anxious days before Pearl Harbor to the final naval battles of 1945, the book follows U-boat attacks, codebreaking races, covert intelligence operations, and civilian patrols—including the volunteer pilots of the Civil Air Patrol—in a sweeping, character-driven narrative of a nation caught unprepared and forced to fight back.
Alongside her work in long-form storytelling, Sara has worked across nearly every department on set, from Production Manager and Editor to Live News Director, Commercial Writer-Director, Live Event Producer, and even stunt performer. She is a member of the Producers Guild of America, with credits including Good Morning America, the Kids’ Choice Awards International, and multiple award-winning live and documentary productions—and she treats her PAs well.
